About Kelly Kendall
It all started for me in the shopping mall, Colonie Center to be exact, at the bench right outside of Friendly’s sitting with a peppermint stick ice cream and my mom. I remember looking at women walking by and thinking about what I would do to make them more prettier, this pastime stuck with me until this day. Fast forward to the start of my Junior Year at Towson State for Psychology. I strolled into a fashionable brownstone in downtown Baltimore for my afternoon hair appointment. I was greeted with chill music, fresh flowers on top of old fireplace mantels and stylists creating looks that would have made anyone want to hit the hottest night spot in an instant…the creative energy was infectious… that was when the “light bulb” turned on and I knew this was me… the vibe was amazing! Since that sunny spring day I have attended some of the most stringent apprentice programs… amongst the finest 5th Avenue salons, such as Frederic Fekkai, John Barrett and AKS. With 12 hour days being the norm, 10 minute lunch breaks (if you’re lucky) and weekly classes with the best in the business. I had an agenda. I spent three years under the direction of Fabrice Gilli, Julian Farrell, Frederic Fekkai, John Barrett and Brad Johns. These individuals inspired me to work to the “top of my game”. Their techniques incorporated classic lines, thinking outside of the box and producing classic hair that worked into the modern woman’s lifestyle. I also had the experience to train under famed British colorist, Louise Galvin, whose father actually invented the foil highlight. After years of living on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, I decided to leave the “Rat Race“, get back to the basics and return home to be close to my family and start my own business. After ten years I still love every day that I arrive at my shop and turn on the ambient music that fills it’s lofty space. It is really not even work for me. Being that my specialty is color, I use several techniques that include base “enhancing”, glosses, baliage and modern foils. These techniques create natural sunny highlights that look like you just spent a long summer hanging out in Martha’s Vineyard. After my recent travels to Bali, Munich and of course New York, the Kelly Kendall Boutique and Salon is now gearing up for the New Year with several classic brands such as Calypso and Jack Rogers. We will also be featuring up and coming designers with exclusive trunk shows every month including jewelry from Palm Beach and leather goods from Italy and Argentina.
